The immigrants have been accused of being part of a notorious Venezuelan gang

Donald Trump appeared in high spirits on Sunday, March 16, after a plane carrying suspected Venezuelan gang members landed in El Salvador.

The Trump administration had ordered the transfer of 238 alleged criminals to a mega-prison in El Salvador, despite a federal judge ruling against the move.

However, officials argued that the decision was made while the plane was already in international airspace, insisting they had not violated any legal orders.

Trump managed to deport the alleged members of Tren de Aragua by invoking an 18th-century law originally designed for wartime. The U.S. government justified the move by claiming the country was under “invasion” from a criminal organization linked to kidnapping, contract killings, and other organized crimes.

After a deal was reached between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, the immigrants were quickly transported to El Salvador’s maximum-security Terrorism Confinement Centre (CECOT).

Opened in 2023, the facility is one of the largest prisons in the world and currently holds tens of thousands of individuals accused of gang affiliations.

Bukele took to social media to share photos and videos of the inmates, showing them handcuffed and escorted off the plane into a heavily guarded convoy.

He stated that the “first 238 members of the Venezuelan criminal organization” had arrived, noting that “the United States will pay a very low fee for them, but a high one for us.”

On Twitter, Bukele added: “As always, we continue making progress in the fight against organized crime. But this time, we are also supporting our allies, making our prison system self-sustainable, and gathering crucial intelligence to further enhance our country’s security—all in a single move.

“May God bless El Salvador, and may God bless the United States.”

Guards shaved the inmates’ heads as Trump took to Truth Social to confirm the deportation, blaming Joe Biden and the Democrats for the alleged criminals’ presence in the U.S.

“These are monsters sent into our country by Crooked Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats. How dare they!” he wrote.

The 78-year-old continued, “Thank you to El Salvador, and in particular President Bukele, for understanding this horrible situation, which was allowed to happen to the United States because of Democrat leadership.

“We will not forget.”
