Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will now be released in 2026, pushing the game well past the originally expected autumn 2025 launch window.

After months of silence — with only the occasional reassurance that the 2025 release was still on track — Rockstar has finally addressed the speculation. In a statement posted to its social media accounts on May 2, the company announced the delay and thanked fans for their continued patience.

The new release date is now set for May 26, 2026.

Rockstar’s message expressed regret for the delay, saying:

“Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”

The statement continued, reaffirming Rockstar’s commitment to quality:

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

Understandably, fans have mixed feelings. While many are frustrated by yet another delay, others admit they saw it coming and are glad to have a confirmed date at last. Some have even said the announcement puts an end to all the wild speculation and rumors that have been circulating online for months.
